Dal Palak, Spinach Dal

A go to meal for any day plus flavorful, protein rich and absolutely delicious this meal just has those cozy and comforting vibes at the end of a busy day or a lazy weekend too !!

Dal Palak / Spinach Dal

Ingredients-

  • Toor Dal, Soaked and Rinsed, 2 cups

  • Green chillies, 3, fine chopped

  • Dried red chillies, 3

  • Curry leaves, 8-10

  • Ginger cloves, 3, fine chopped

  • Spinach, roughly chopped, 2 cups

  • Onion, 1 medium, fine chopped

  • Tomatoes, 2, fine chopped

  • Mustard seeds, 1 tbsp

  • Cumin Seeds, 1 tbsp

  • Salt, 1 tbsp

  • Ghee, 3 tbsp

  • Hing / Aesophotida, 1 tsp

  • Chilli powder, 1 tbsp

  • Coriander powder, 1 tbsp

  • Turmeric, 1 tsp

  • Lime juice, 2 tbsp

  • Cilantro,1 cup, fine chopped


Recipe

Cook 2 cups of toor dal, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp hing powder in pressure cooker. Cook until 5 whistles on medium flame. Let it sit aside and cool down.


In a pan on medium heat add 3 tbsp ghee. Once the pan is heated, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let it sputter then add chopped garlic cloves, green chillies, dry red chillies, curry leaves. Saute for a min.

Add 1 cup finely chopped onions. Cook for 5 mins until onions are transluscent. Add in tomatoes and cook until tomatoes are soft and cooked. Then add 3 cups of roughly cut spinach leaves and cook for another 3-5 mins.

Add in the masala, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric and 1 tsp salt. Saute for about a min and then add cooked dal into it with 2 cups water. Cover and let it simmer for 5 mins on medium heat.


Add fresh chopped coriander with 2 tbsp lime juice and serve hot with some steamed rice. Enjoy your wholesome meal.
