The most popular, flavorful, delicious and spicy maharashtrian dish, Misal Pav surely lands in bucket of favourite dishes for many and has several variations of preparation where misal is prepared with sprouted moth beans also called matki and the gravy is the masala paste prepared with coconut. 💙👩🍳 Misal Pav is pretty filling and is a popular breakfast dish but this can be a brunch or lunch meal too.
Normally when cooking I always look for recipes which can be quick, easy and healthy and not a compromise on taste. Misal is also a street food of Mumbai and something which is healthy, tasty and a complete vegeterian meal. Cooking the moth beans in a pressure cooker or crock pot makes it quicker since these beans take quite longer to cook. In this recipe, I am sharing the pressure cooker way which is also another winner recipe for potlucks. Making the masala paste is something you need to focus on more in this recipe since that is the whole part of making spicy and tasty misal once you cook the moth beans.
Ever since my childhood, I have always loved spicy misal. If you are not a 'spicy food' person this recipe can be made exactly the same but to bring down the spice you can put some chilled dahi(yogurt) while you garnish. I once had misal pav at a popular misal place in Mumbai and they had the yogurt option and I tried it. I must say, It was really good as I was suspicious to try with yogurt.
Also, do not forget to garnish with fine chopped onions, cilantro, lime juice and crunchy sev/farsan before you devour it and that would surely uplift this humble and beautiful dish.
