Mixed Dal Tadka

A simple and hearty dal rice can be a sure winner for a cozy and comforting meal any time of the day !!

Super simple to make, quick, wholesome and healthiest with many variations across different regions but not wrong to say a go to meal in Indian cuisine.


Mixed Dal Tadka


Ingredients-

  • Masoor Dal, Soaked and Rinsed, 1 cup

  • Toor Dal, Soaked and Rinsed, 1 cup

  • Split Moong Dal, Soaked and Rinsed, 1 cup

  • Green chillies, 4, fine chopped

  • Dried red chillies, 3

  • Curry leaves, 8-10

  • Ginger garlic paste, 1 tbsp

  • Onion, 1 medium, fine chopped

  • Tomatoes, 2, fine chopped

  • Mustard seeds, 1 tbsp

  • Cumin Seeds, 1 tbsp

  • Hing (Aesophotida), 1/2 tsp

  • Ghee, 4 tbsp

  • Salt, 2 tbsp

  • Chilli powder, 1 tbsp

  • Coriander powder, 1 tbsp

  • Garam masala, 1 tbsp

  • Turmeric, 1 tsp

  • Lime juice, 2 tbsp

  • Cilantro, fine chopped, 1 cup


Recipe-

Add all toor dal, whole masoor dal, split moong dal with 1 tbsp salt, 1/2 tsp each of turmeric, hing (aesophotida) and 6 cups water until 6 whistles on medium flame. Let it sit aside to cool down.


In a pan on medium heat add ghee. When the pan is heated, add 1 tsp each of mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let it sputter then add 3 chopped green chillies, 8-10 curry leaves, dried red chillies. Cook for a minute on low flame.Then add 1 cup finely chopped onions with 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste. Cook for 5-7 mins until onions are cooked. Add 1 cup chopped tomatoes and cook until tomatoes are soft and cooked. Then add 1 tsp each of chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt. Saute for about a min and then add cooked dal into it with 2 cups water. Cover and let it simmer for about 6-8 mins on medium heat.


Add fresh chopped coriander with 2 tbsp lime juice and serve hot with some steamed rice. Enjoy your wholesome meal.
