You get a balanced meal when it comes to protein bowl as it has a good source of protein, fiber and carbohydrates. The one thing I like the most is that these bowls are often customizable and you can switch the amount of carbs, protein or fiber in your bowl.
I am always inspired from rice and protein bowls when I try out those in restaurants around my place. I like all types of protein bowls.
My take to making protein bowl is the one I tried after I made a batch of hummus and falafel at home. These are also some good snack options in between meals.
You can try out both my falafel and hummus recipes on page if you do a meal prep too. Add in some veggies of your choice, add some brown or white rice, which you can switch with quinoa, couscous (any base of your choice) to these and enjoy a good vegetarian protein bowl at home.
Protein bowl
Ingredients-
For this protein bowl, I have added turmeric rice, cooked beetroots, mix salad of cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, pan fried pita bread, falafel and hummus.
Rice, 1 cup, cooked
Turmeric, 1/4 tsp
Salt, 1/6 tsp
Beetroot, 1 small, chopped
Mini cucumbers, 2, chopped
Onions, 1 small, chopped
Tomatoes, 1 small, chopped
Pita bread, 1 (This is store bought)
Falafel (Check out the falafel recipe on blog)
Hummus (Check out the hummus recipe on blog)
Garlic and herb seasoning, 1 tsp
Recipe -
Turmeric rice Soak and rinse 1 cup rice and add into saucepan. Add double the cups of water than rice. Rice to water ratio is 1:2. Add 1/6 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp turmeric. Cook on medium flame and once done. Let it sit aside.
Salad Pressure cook chopped beetroot and let it cool completely. In a bowl, add in chopped cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, garlic and herb seasoning, pinch of salt and give it a mix.
Pita bread I am using store bought pita bread here. Spread some butter or just pan fry the bread on both sides and cut it into pieces.
Assemble the bowl -
For base, add some rice and then add in the salad, beetroots, falafel, hummus and pita breads.
Drizzle some olive oil on hummus and add some garlic and herb seasoning.
